How long do shrooms stay in your system?

Ben AustinBy Ben AustinOctober 26, 2024No Comments39 Views

Shrooms also called Magic Mushrooms are a kind of fungi with psychoactive compounds. These substances alter perceptions and create a sharp sensory experience. Shrooms can be easily detected in your system through urine drug testing. In the USA, shrooms are classified as Schedule 1 drugs which means they are not legal, possess a high potential for getting abused and do not have any approved medical usage. However, there is consistent research into possible therapeutic use, with some potential outcomes for the treatment of anxiety and depression.

Time taken by shroom to kick in

People often feel the shroom’s effect quickly, mostly around 40 minutes after they have taken the dose. The effects start at a peak two hours after the ingestion of shrooms. Some of its effects are

    • Euphoria feeling and connection with others
    • Enhanced energy
    • Giggles
    • Headaches
    • Hallucinations
    • Psychosis
    • Chills
    • Diarrhea
    • Sweating
    • Anxiety

Even if many people have shrooms due to the happy sensations that psilocybin generates, many people also experience what is called a bad trip. This causes many people to get intense feelings of anxiety, fear, panic and paranoia along with some unpleasant hallucinations. In addition, shrooms also have a comedown period same as other drugs, where a person gets the feeling of exhaustion, irritation and depression after ingesting shrooms.

How long do shrooms take to stay in your system?

The impact of shrooms is felt 20-60 minutes post-ingestion with a peak of around 2 hours which lasts up to six hours. A urine drug test can detect shroom use until 24 hours post-ingestion. Standard drug tests like those which are used by employers, do not test for the shrooms. Some special tests can find out those substances but they are expensive and uncommon. The main active ingredient present in the shroom is psilocybin which is rapidly broken down by the body into psilocin. It is something that a drug test looks for while checking for the shrooms.

What are the factors that affect how long shrooms stay in your system?

There are many factors that impact how long do shrooms stay in your system such as:

    • The way it is ingested: Consumption of shrooms in the form of tea can result in fast absorption and excretion when compared with eating either in dried form or raw form.
    • Your rate of metabolism: People with fast metabolism might process and remove shrooms faster than those who have a slow metabolism.
    • Body mass, overall health and age: These also affect how fast your body is metabolizing the shrooms.

    The half-life of psilocybin

The half-life of a drug refers to the time the body takes to metabolize the half portion of a specific drug. For shrooms, a maximum of people can metabolize half a dose of the shrooms in an hour. It takes about three hours for a maximum dose of shrooms to get eliminated from your body, but this again relies on several factors.

When you have shrooms, your body starts metabolizing psilocybin and psilocin which shows up in urine tests. But those tests are not used on a routine basis. There are no commercial blood tests for shrooms even if researchers are trying to generate one.

Ingestion of shroom can lead to

    • Hallucinations
    • Changed perception
    • Psychological impacts
    • Physical symptoms such as nausea

The duration of these effects varies based on

    • Amount of shroom ingested
    • Shrooms strength
    • Tolerance level
    • The physical and mental state while consuming

While the instant physical impacts of shrooms might subside after some hours, the psychological impacts might linger. These can involve mood swings, perceptions and thoughts and they last for many days, weeks or even more in many cases.

Even if research shows that shrooms are not addictive physically, still they can result in psychological dependence. When you find yourself getting indulged in shrooms on a more frequent basis, enhancing your dosage or you are feeling an obsessive requirement to consume them, then you might be suffering because of shroom addiction. Then it’s important to look for assistance. Several resources and options for treatment are there for you.

    Conclusion

Shrooms can have a high effect on your body and mind and their detection in the body varies greatly based on several factors. While the immediate effects might wear off in some hours, the psychological effects can persist. When you are struggling with addiction to shroom, it is important to look for assistance. Treatment like counseling, support groups and therapy can assist you in understanding and overcoming addiction.
