How does RCS work?
In other words, it is about data, not network cellularity. Therefore, in the instances where SMS continues to communicate through the network without internet, there must be the internet for RCS. RCS has made sending large files, images and videos easier.
Features of RCS
Similar to any messaging platform like WhatsApp or iMessage, RCS is a platform that has few unique attributes of its own.
- Multimedial Data Sharing: Sharing images, video and/or voice recording is also allowed.
- Receipts Read: Sows whether or not the message has been opened.
- Indicators for typing: Type-written is visible to the other party.
- Group Chats: It also enables one to send text to more than one person at a time on the social app.
- Larger Texts: RCS enables one to send heavier texts than SMS.
What is the Difference between SMS and RCS?
A technology SMS is nearly two-decade-old and it allows only 160 characters to be sent as a text. And, RCS puts all these restrictions behind, It enables writing more text, posting photos, videos and receiving so much more interaction.
Additionally, SMS is backed by all the phones unlike the RCS which only works on smartphones if supported by the carrier.
Why is RCS Important?
It is a revolutionary tool in communication. Traditional SMS is deeply limited in many aspects, and in a world with third-party applications like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, the coming RCS does not require third-party apps for media sharing, etc.
How to Use RCS Messaging
For the sender and/or the receiver to participate in a RCS interaction, both phones must be RCS enabled. As for now, almost all modern brands of Android devices contain opportunities for the RCS. There is also a requirement that the messaging app has to have the RCS feature. Most arguably, the current most-used RCS suitable app is Google’s Messages.
RCS and Privacy
This is a massive issue with RCS. And by default, RCS is not implemented with end-to-end encryption as in apps like WhatsApp. That being said, RCS is work on changing this.
Future of RCS
RCS vision for Androids is to become the version in the messaging future. It will compete straight off with texting brands such as iMessage and WhatsApp.
Advantages of RCS:
- Better Communication: RCS is much more colorful and engaging when compared with regular SMS.
- No download needed of third-party apps: In other words, you will be able to enjoy all the options of the instant messaging applications without using additional programs.
- Compatibility: It is compatible with traditional SMS so that your message will always be friendly with it.
Disadvantages of RCS:
- No encryption is available: In short, the absence of default end to end encryption makes major privacy issues worse.
- It’s Not Available Everywhere: RCS is still not supported by all carriers nor by apple devices.
- Internet Dependent: Rcs need internet connection for it to run efficiently and at high rates of speed.
Conclusion:
The second type of texting is now known as RCS messaging. It occupies the ground between classical Short Messaging Service and modern messenger applications. RCS messaging allows sharing media and requires read receipt, however it has some areas that should be changed to bring RCS to all people with smartphones all over the world.
