    The Allure of Orange Gemstones

Ben AustinBy Ben AustinJuly 28, 2024No Comments80 Views

Captivating orange gemstones evoke the warmth and vibrancy of autumn sunsets, the glow of a roaring fire, and the vitality of citrus fruits. These stones are lovely and full of meanings and properties that have made them valued for aeons. If you are an orange gemstone aficionado, or thinking of becoming one, what better way to adorn yourself than with a stone that not only can look spectacular but also has a history of being efficacious? What follows is a look at some of the orange gemstones that one might choose to use for adornment.

    Types of Orange Gemstones

    Orange Sapphires

Orange sapphires are among the most prized. They are hard, which makes them good orange stones for jewellery.

    Fire Opal

Fire opals are famous for their nearly incandescent orange coloration. Unlike other opals, fire opals often lack a play of colour but more than make up for it with their body colour. They range from a yellowish to a reddish orange but are mostly found colorimetric to the deep orange colour. Fire opal is seldom found with a play of colour. They are Mexican gemstones and are found in the Negev Desert in Israel.

    Citrine

A quartz form ranging from light yellow to dark orange-brown, citrine is a beautifully alluring gemstone. Clear, vibrant orange citrines are the most desired and valuable. In fact, citrines are relatively common and inexpensive, making them a sought-after jewellery stone. With their cheerful appearance, citrines are said to trigger the “success” frequency in the wearer and are sometimes called “merchants stones.”

    Carnelian

A precious stone with a fine reddish-orange hue, carnelian is another quartz variety. The ancients used carnelian extensively for jewellery and engraving. Though they were cut and polished to high sheen, carved carnelian figures were not too common. Still, one famous Muslim amulet of carnelian is the “enclosed lion.”

    Imperial Topaz

The most valuable type of topaz is the imperial topaz, which has a magnificent brassy to orange colouring. Its rarity and beauty, especially in the uncut form, have in the past also led to it being associated with the imperial or royal ranks. Today, we know the imperial topaz to be a rarity, not only due to its very few occurrences in the world but also because any one specimen will usually outshine competitor pieces for any gemstone at the same size (mostly due to the exceptional cut of imperial topaz in exhibits).

    Healing Attributes

    • Emotional Healing: Orange gemstones are reputed to help unblock emotional impasses, decrease stress, and inspire optimism.
    • Physical Healing: Some folks believe these stones can assist with digestion, rev metabolism, and bolster reproductive health.
    • Spiritual Growth: Orange gemstones are thought to amplify creativity, intuition, and personal power, making them potent tools for meditation and other spiritual practices.

    Uses of Orange Gemstones

    Jewellery

Bright orange gemstones make wonderful statement pieces. Whether they’re fashioned into rings, necklaces, earrings, or bracelets, these stunning stones always command attention.

    Home Décor

In addition to jewellery, one could use orange gemstones in home décor to impart warmth and good energy to a space. While orange gemstones are not necessarily common, they are beautiful and can definitely serve as excellent accents in any home. I was recently in a home where the owner had a fire opal pendant on display, not to mention several other pieces of stunning orange gemstone jewellery. The fire opal in its mount could not help but catch the light and dazzle the eyes of viewers.

    Collecting

You can rely on some of the orange gemstones to be pretty uncommon. Yes, you can find some citrine every now and then, but are you really going to find a lot of imperial topaz or fire opal? Not without doing some serious gemstone hunting. And even then, you probably won’t find them in the same place twice.

    Caring for Orange Gemstones

    • Storage: Keep orange gemstones separate from more durable stones to prevent scratches. Use soft pouches or lined boxes to store the orange beauties.
    • Handling: Handle the stones with care, and remove your rings if you ever need to sand or saw wood, engage in strenuous exercise, or work in the kitchen with sharp knives.

Orange gemstones are rare. They come in a range of colours, from near-red to yellow, and in a range of hues and saturations. Whether you choose a buttery-topaz citrine, a vivid spessartine garnet, a golden-hued fire opal, or an elusive orange diamond, expect half-baked darkness and sealing some chest goo and cape-like good fortune when you wear them.
