Take into account the following factors when selecting a driving school in Dubai

When choosing a driving school in Dubai, there are several factors to consider to ensure that you receive quality training and a positive learning experience. Here are some key factors to keep in mind:

    1. Accreditation and license. Ensure that the driving school you select has proper accreditation by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai. This ensures that the school meets the required standards and regulations for instruction.
    2. Reputation and experience of instructors. Research the driving school’s reputation. Look for reviews from previous students to gauge their overall satisfaction and level of success. Consider taking into account the qualifications and experience of the instructors teaching at the school.
    3. Curriculum and teaching methods. Learn about the driving school’s curriculum and teaching methods. They must cover all relevant topics and comply with the latest traffic laws and regulations.
    4. Facilities and resources. If possible, visit the driving school in advance to familiarize yourself with its capabilities and resources. Check the condition of the vehicles. Also, evaluate the classroom facilities and any additional materials or technology used for theoretical instruction.
    5. Flexibility and scheduling. Take into account the driving school’s flexibility when it comes to scheduling driving lessons to fit your schedule. Some schools may offer evening or weekend classes to accommodate the needs of different students. It is important to find a school that fits your schedule.
    6. Cost and price-quality ratio. Compare prices at different driving schools in Dubai, keep in mind that the most affordable choice may not necessarily be the most effective.
    7. Additional services. Find out about any additional services the driving school offers, such as theory test preparation, practice driving tests or assistance with the licensing process. These services can be helpful in increasing your chances of success in obtaining your driver’s license.

Renewal and replacement of driving license

It is possible to renew your UAE driving license through an online process in most emirates on the RTA website. To renew, you must fill out the appropriate form on the website and pay all existing fines.

    Preparatory steps

Applicants need to pass several tests to obtain a valid driving license in Dubai.

    Theory

The theory test is carried out at one of the authorized driving schools (usually the one you are registered with). The test includes 40 questions to assess your knowledge of road/driving hazards, signals and signs, and safe driving practices. The test results in a pass if the candidate answers correctly at least 30 questions correctly. The theory test is conducted on a touch screen computer in English, Urdu or Arabic.

    Practice

After successfully passing the theoretical exam, you will begin practical classes. The practice lasts from 10 to 20 hours, which is 20–40 lessons. The duration depends on your driving experience. After this, you need to pass a practical exam, which consists of several stages:

    1. The parking skills test tests your ability to park in a variety of situations, including entering a garage and emergency braking of your vehicle.
    2. The final driving test is conducted under real road conditions and lasts about 10 minutes.

    Driving on a tourist visa

Tourists entering the UAE for a short period of time can rent a car if they have an international driving license. However, If a foreign national resides in the UAE for an extended duration on a tourist visa and does not have a local driving license, the traffic police may impose a high fine.

    Traffic rules in Dubai

    1. In Dubai, traffic is on the right.
    2. Remember that everyone in a moving vehicle must wear seat belts at all times.
    3. Children younger than 12 years old are not permitted to ride in the front row unless they are in an approved rear-facing car seat with the airbag disabled. Keep in mind that children under 12 years of age should ride in the rear and must be seated in appropriate safety seats or booster seats with seat belts installed.
    4. Drunk driving is strictly prohibited in Dubai. Strictly adhere to the 0% blood alcohol limit for driving enforced in Dubai. If you violate it, you risk almost certainly getting a prison sentence.
    5. Avoid using your phone or other devices while driving.
    6. Always maintain a safe distance from other vehicles at all times when driving in Dubai.
    7. Observe that the leftmost lane on Dubai roads and highways is designated as the expressway lane. If you do not plan to comply with the maximum speed limit, stick to the slower right-hand lanes.
    8. Be alert for emergency vehicles with flashing lights stopped on or by the road. Exercise caution when passing emergency vehicles and be prepared to stop if necessary.
    9. Always give way to emergency vehicles and never open the trunk, race or pass emergency vehicles with their lights flashing.

    Black Mark System

Dubai also has a Black Tag system. In addition to a fine, the violator may receive a bad grade. A driver caught exceeding the speed limit by 30 km/h or more faces the possibility of losing their driver’s license valid for a maximum of three months.
