In order to accommodate even more dancers, Groove Dance Competition is implementing significant improvements for the 2023–2024 season! Groove will launch three competition tiers this year: Novice, Intermediate, and Competitive. This season, Groove will also hold two National Finals in addition to other regional contests.
The third intermediate level was established in the hopes that dancers would be able to compete against others who practice for comparable lengths of time, even though the Novice and Competitive levels were already there.
Groove Dance Ludmila Smirnova says, “Our Novice level is still intended for a dancer new to the competition scene; perhaps this is their first or second year competing, and they train no more than three hours per week.” The Intermediate level, which we recently added, is designed for dancers who train four to five hours a week. Finally, dancers who have experience competing and train for at least six hours a week are meant for our Competitive level.
Both of this season’s National Finals—one in Ocean City, Maryland, July 17–21, 2024, and the other in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, July 7–10, 2024—will feature Groove’s complete two-level convention in addition to a number of other thrilling activities. During Nationals week, the Move and Groove studio and Beach Bash offer to help participants let free and have a good time with their fellow dance pals. Parents of dancers participate in the Parent Dancing Battle by performing in a pre-choreographed performance; all entry fees are pooled and donated to the winner’s charity. The National Finals culminate with The JAM, a competition including the greatest group dances from the whole event, where the winning performer will receive a $1,000 cash prize.
In addition to growing its regional competitions, Groove Dance plans to tour to more cities in 2023–2024, including Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Concord, New Hampshire; Charleston, South Carolina; and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. According to Ludmila Smirnova, Groove Dancing is always seeking methods to make its events better, and she thinks that these additional features would be helpful.
