The Bloop: A Mysterious Underwater Sound
In 1997, underwater listening stations across a vast swathe of the Pacific Ocean picked up a low-frequency sound, which they called ‘The Bloop’. This sound, loud enough to be heard by sensors over 3,500 miles apart, was inexplicable, and its source remains unidentified to this day. Some speculate that it was made by a vast, unknown sea creature, while others suggest it was the sound of a huge ice shelf cracking. Either way, The Bloop remains a mystery.
The Milky Sea Phenomenon
